1 Understanding information [Recommended duration: 1 hour]

1.1 Overview

Section 1 looks at what we mean by information and offers a framework for looking at different types of information used both in studying and in daily life. Finally it addresses the first skill, that of ‘knowing what you need to know’.

In this section you will be having a look at what information means to you and how it is used to make decisions in different areas of our lives, especially during our studies.

The section contains activities which you may need to allow between twenty minutes and one hour to complete. Most of the activities only ask you to think about the issues raised, so making notes is optional. The focus here is on reading and reflecting.
