Activity 2: FORMAL ENGLISH -WRITING OBJECTIVELY.
There are many instances where we have to write in a formal style whilst evaluating information objectively. For example we would be expected to write in this manner if we were asked to write a report or an academic essay.
When writing in a formal style:
Follow conventional sentence structures.
Avoid slang, colloquialisms and private references which are not generally understood.
Adopt a courteous and reasonable tone, even if you are writing about a subject which arouses your anger.
Without resorting to detailed personal opinions, or an argumentative style, write a brief statement on the following topic.
Activity 2 - Try to briefly explain what you consider to be the main reasons for choice of newspaper.
Some people regularly buy the same newspaper every day. Just imagine that during production one night the impossible happened and that next day the readers of, say, the Sun and the Guardian found that their papers had swapped styles. I think that a great number of readers would feel betrayed and cheated because that day the papers would have failed to give them what they had come to expect. Why is it then that people regularly buy the same paper every day?
Obviously, this topic could be the subject of a lengthy essay. Hence, you will have to attempt to summarise the possible factors involved in choosing a newspaper. Limit yourself to three paragraphs.
