Introduction

The Law is an institution of Socialisation in Britain.

Society relies on most people obeying its laws in order to function fairly smoothly. Ideally people will accept the norms and customs of society in order to live together peacefully.

The police record crime in order to see how much crime is taking place (and being solved) and what types of crime are being committed and by whom and whether these rates show increases or decreases over time.
