Prejudice and Personality
Adorno (1950) described the authoritarian personality as a personality type that predisposes a person to prejudice and hostility.
The person with an authoritarian personality is likely to be hostile towards a wide range of people including those of lower social status, people who are minorities and those who advocate liberal thinking.
They tend to believe that life can be seen in 'black and white' rather than 'shades of grey' – in other words there is a right answer, a right way of doing things and a right way of being.
A number of tests were devised by Adorno and other theorists to measure for the tendencies towards authoritarian personality. One of these is the Fascism (or F) scale.
You can try the F Scale for yourself but be aware that this online version gives a slightly tongue in cheek response to your score at the end.
