There is clearly a need for further research and development of these techniques,
beyond the SAMD demonstrator.
For example, although a successful 'proof of concept', the authorisation
methods used in SAMD can be improved upon with more sophisticated methods.
This is in tune with the recent JISC 06/02
call for projects in authorisation and authentication.
- There is a greater need for more standardised protocols
for the access to data and computational resources than was possible with
SAMD. The protocol used by SAMD to request data from the MIMAS
Web server was a bespoke one, and there is no claim that it's suitable for
more general purposes.
- Another area for further research and development concerns the Grid-enabling
of existing web-based data services that host datasets. As
mentioned in other units, this development is crucial to the extension of
a Grid approach to e-Social Science research.
