We are in conversation with our client from the first contact. We often start to relax our client with chat about the weather, their journey etc. Questions about appointment times and any queries the client has will usually be discussed prior to our completion of our consultation record card. First impressions count.
If you find some initial difficulties with your client be sure to repeat yourself until the client understands. You may have to reframe the way you put the information across or simplify your language. Sometimes therapists can forget that the technical terms we use are not familiar to members of the public.
