Graphs

Graphs are closely linked with tables and spreadsheets and many applications such as Microsoft Excel (spreadsheet) and Microsoft Access (database) have routines built in that allow you to convert numerical data into various types of graphs and charts.

Here is some basic information on graphs and charts.

The public services use charts and graphs extensively to disseminate information in a form that most people find easier to understand. A good chart can put columns of figures into a form that makes an immediate impact.

Here is a good example of the use of bar charts.

This example shows line graphs in use.

The use of a pie chart in this case makes an impact.

Graphs and charts have an important part to play in the interpretation and presentation of data. Time spent learning the skills necessary to know how to produce graphs and charts and to know which is most appropriate in which circumstances is time well spent.
