The letter was written by a reader to the newspaper. The writer’s opinion is that the suggestion of lashes for trading in alcohol seems an extreme punishment; this opinion reflects our society’s viewpoint.
In our society, over 18’s drinking alcohol is a socially acceptable pastime, but in Saudi Arabia it is not appropriate behaviour and against the law.
Being an Islamic/Muslim country the drinking of alcohol is not allowed in Saudi Arabia. An Islamic value has been made into a strict law; if found to be drinking, selling or making alcohol there are severe punishments for individuals.
