The First Social Science Access Grid Event

Recently, Professor George Duncan (Carnegie Mellon University) gave a lecture using Access Grid entitled "Exploring the Tension Between Privacy and the Social Benefits of Governmental Databases". This resulted in a joint US/UK high-level debate that addressed confidentiality and access to data.

Access Grid was used for part of the ESRC Research Methods programme as a dissemination tool to show the Social Science community the effectiveness of this technology as well as presenting a world leader in the field.

The opportunity to hear from Professor Duncan would probably not have arisen without Access Grid due to the necessity to travel (he could not afford the time to attend physically and we could not afford the expense).
